There is a history of culture behind these beautiful accessories when we look at bangles and beads it reminds us. Beads took many forms. Bangles and bead necklaces were worn by both men and women.When the remains of Harappa & Mohenjodaro of the Tamil civilisation were discovered, beads and bangles were found. The reason for holding this conclusively was that they were similar to the designs of Mesopotamia & Iran. A lot of bangles in old times were made from dangly coins and Islamic half moons. They were on necklaces and bracelets. But carnelian beads were worn exclusively by women.

Gemstones are identified by gemologists. The first characteristic a gemologist uses to identify a gemstone is its chemical composition. Gems are characterized in terms of refractive index, dispersion, specific gravity, hardness, cleavage, fracture, and luster. They may exhibit pleochroism or double refraction. Who describe gems and their characteristics using technical terminology specific to the field of gemology.Next, many gems are crystals which are classified by their crystal system such as cubic or trigonal or monoclinic. They may have luminescence and a distinctive absorption spectrum. For example, diamonds are made of carbon (C) and rubies of aluminium oxide (Al2O3). Another term used is habit, the form the gem is usually found in. For example diamonds, which have a cubic crystal system, are often found as octahedrons.
Cut of the stone
Firstly we talked about the cut of the stone. Now finding a good quality bright green tourmaline with this cut is not impossible to find but can be tricky so we decided that custom cutting was the way forward. We custom cut the green tourmaline from a larger cushion stone to create the look. We combined the chequer board facetted cut on top but with a more square proportioned shape rather than oval. The lapidaries squared up the proportions and then facetted the top of the stone.This creating a square cushion shape with a facetted top! Donna felt a straight sided square stone would be a little harsh so decided that she would like to have the stone with softened corners. The initial stone was 1.72cts and ended up at 1.05ct. After being cut gemstone it is difficult. We searched for a green tourmaline of the right colour that could be cut to shape. The twist ring is simple in style holds the tourmaline for a modern design.
